FRANKLEE ANATRA
I saw FrankLee perform at Drunken Drow last week. He plays every Friday at 5pm SLT (Sat morning 10am for me:) just as I am sipping my 2nd cup of coffee in RL.

He has been singing and playing his guitar in real world nightclubs for many years. His repertoir of music spans multiple generations from 2000+ back till the 1950s.

Do I think you can fall in love in Second Life……

Yes …. a fantasy love I would say 80% of the time. I think you can fall in love anywhere, in a pub, at work, at the bus stop, with your flatmate and in a virtual world. The only difference is in the virtual world physically you are not you. In real life you can hide behind your shades to hide the colour of your eyes but that is about it but in SL you can have different colour hair, eyes, skin and so much more…..You could be married with 3 kids in RL but does your SL love know this?? Maybe you are the opposite sex than your avatar exploring your inner hidden desires.

I have seen avatars in SL sooo much in love then partnered and unpartnered in a matter of a week but I have also met couples who have been together for years in SL and some of them have made it a reality in RL as well.

As for me I have had many relationships in SL good and bad and I am sure both of us learnt something from it. I certainly did:) The only experience I want to forget is being stalked.

I heard from a friend of mine in SL how he met his SL love in RL and had pink and blue pose balls set up on his bed in RL - hehe. They now live together in RL so there is a happy ending for you. I myself live in the Southern Hemisphere and I find my timezone sucks in general with SL for meeting up with people, listening to live music and many other opportunities.

I have found having a partner in your profile does cut down on the amount of people who would talk to you. My opinion is we are all in this virtual world to make contact with people from all over this planet not to be owned or controlled by someone.

I had one female neighbour in SL into Gor that could not even talk to me without asking her master – I just don’t get it.

As for the sex nothing can beat the human touch skin to skin:)  but a passionate kiss on a good pose ball to me can be magic.

So my bottom line answer to this question is yes you can fall in love in SL and maybe it will work in RL as well ….. just open your heart and be honest to each other.

What a way to start my blog talking about being addicted to Second Life (SL) and implications it has on real life.

Yesterday I was surfing the net reading about the way SL had impacted people’s lives – good and bad.

Dylan Rikenbacker’s story was well worth the read and I’m glad to see he has not left Second Life just found some balance. http://wp.me/p4pt2-X 

A very common thread I found on my search about SL addiction was that it seemed to affect couples and their lives the most – people in real life (RL) relationships with and without kids. Some of the gripes mentioned were things like not doing the housework while your partner is working all day and instead being on SL for 12 hrs plus with your virtual lover, or not preparing meals for their families, hiding in rooms with their laptops instead of spending time with their loved ones. As for myself I am single and I suppose can please myself. I have found SL has made me a bit anti-social but I have a 40 hr plus day job with all its responsbilities in the graphic design field and often enjoy the peace of winding down after work in SL. I must admit my apartment has not been as tidy for the last few years but I am the only one living in it.

Isn’t it all about “BALANCE”, Second Life addiction, alcohol addiction, drug addiction, gambling addiction – a few drinks or tokes won’t hurt you, betting on some horses or the occasional roulette table won’t hurt you either but if you don’t have the strength to say enough is enough and when to stop I suppose then “cold turkey” is your only answer.

Don’t get me wrong I see many positives in this virtual world, the art created in this world, the photography, the live musicians, the editors and writers, the dress designers, the scripters, all the content creators that make this world possible and so mesmerising. I am just a little cautious about letting my real life slip away too much and I am looking for my own balance.
